Camera coverage in Portugal is mostly about the coast and the sky. The largest group of public webcams points at beaches, and these are not just for tourists. Surfers check the Atlantic swell before driving to the coast, and lifeguards use the same feeds during summer months. The densest beach coverage runs along the Algarve from Lagos to Tavira, with another cluster around Lisbon's Cascais and Estoril stretch, and fewer but still useful cameras further north at places like Nazaré and Peniche, where big-wave season draws its own audience. Airports form the second major block. Cameras at Lisbon, Porto, Faro and Madeira's airport show runway activity and terminal approaches, operated by the national airport authority as well as local webcam hosts. They are used mainly for spotting and for checking weather before a flight. The Azores and Madeira islands add their own coverage: harbours in Ponta Delgada and Funchal, plus a scattering of nature cameras that look out over volcanic landscapes and protected marine areas. These are the quietest feeds, often static views of the sea or forest, but they give a real-time sense of Atlantic weather. Road traffic cameras exist, but they are less prominent than in other European countries. The main motorway operator along the Algarve and the A1 corridor maintains a small network, mostly around bridges and tunnels. River cameras are few, as Portugal has no large navigable rivers inland. For the visitor, the practical value of this page is pre-trip: checking if the beach is packed, whether the surf is up, or if fog has closed the airport. The rest is simply watching a country that faces the ocean.
